Em 1976, Joaquim Augusto Fígaro Roque, Sérgio Salvo Molina Gimeno e Wagner Rodrigues Valente, de forma bastante integrada, começaram a desenvolver uma proposta pedagógica diferenciada. Naquela época, diante de resultados pouco satisfatórios em aprovações, mesmo com a dedicação dos alunos nos estudos, foi levantada a seguinte questão: como ultrapassar a etapa escolar com êxito de modo que isso se reflita em aprovações em boas universidades?
A partir de muita pesquisa e discussões sobre o que é estudar, a equipe pedagógica entrou em consenso que estudar implica: leitura, tomada de apontamentos e redação. A direção, os coordenadores e os orientadores encararam o desafio de aplicar esses três elementos essenciais e revolucionou a forma de adquirir e compartilhar conhecimento.
Assim, cada aluno passou a ser responsável por sua organização, algo separado da atuação dos professores. No caso do projeto pedagógico, ao dar ênfase ao método de estudos, ocorreu a integração dos processos de ensino (professores) e de aprendizagem (alunos), que se mostrou fundamental na definição da própria filosofia educacional do Anglo Leonardo da Vinci.
Com isso, sistematizou e organizou todas as experiências do trabalho didático-pedagógico do primeiro ano do Ensino Fundamental Anos Iniciais, Ensino Fundamental Anos Finais e Ensino Médio.
