Inaugurado em dezembro de 2009, o Colégio AFAM foi um projeto que nasceu do sonho de levar educação de qualidade e formação pessoal integral a preços justos para crianças e adolescentes. Até então, existia apenas sua mantenedora AFAM Educacional, entidade sem fins lucrativos focada na preparação para os concursos de ingresso e de promoção da Polícia Militar de São Paulo. Apesar da relação com a PMESP, a AFAM Educacional é uma associação independente e não subordinada à corporação. E, assim sendo, resolveu ampliar seus horizontes e desbravar o terreno fértil da educação básica.

Para alcançar o sonho, a AFAM Educacional e sua mantenedora AFAM uniram esforços para encontrar o local ideal. São Miguel Paulista foi o escolhido e o colégio foi inteiro erguido do zero. Após mais de 1 ano em construção, a estrutura estava entregue. Em cerimônia com o então prefeito Gilberto Kassab, o Colégio AFAM era finalmente lançado para cumprir sua missão e contribuir para a inserção de seus alunos no mercado de trabalho e na vida adulta com caráter e autoestima.

Com a implementação das atividades, foram selecionados profissionais qualificados e sistema de estudo consistente para dar andamento ao projeto educacional, visando à formação acadêmica e pessoal. O Sistema Poliedro foi eleito para dar o suporte material à estrutura de ensino.

A todo o vapor, o Colégio AFAM começou com cerca de 200 alunos, entre filhos de militares e de civis. Hoje, o número quadriplicou, chegando à marca dos 800 alunos. Com o crescimento, foi necessário ampliar sua estrutura física e, em 2017, foi inaugurado o novo prédio, batizado de Tarsila do Amaral, para acomodar os alunos do Ensino Fundamental. Fazem parte dele 14 novas salas de aula, além de um espaço específico para o Período Integral, projetado para que os alunos se sintam em casa e se adaptem da melhor forma possível ao longo período na escola. Sala de Convivência, Ateliê de Artes, Sala do Descanso e playground coberto estão entre os ambientes.
