Em 1981 os sacerdotes da Arquidiocese de São Paulo, Cônego Francisco de Assis Gandolfo, Monsenhor Roberto Mascarenhas Roxo, Cônego Dario Benedito Bevilacqua, Pe. Gilberto Defina, Pe. Alcindo Castilho e os professores Edgar Joly e Eugene Cywinski, que dirigiram a FAI, (Faculdades Associadas Ipiranga), atualmente UNIFAI, fundaram o Colégio Lumen Vitae situado a Rua Afonso Celso número 671.
Da frase de Jesus “Eu sou a LUZ do mundo” surgiu o Colégio Lumen Vitae. Ele nasceu do Coração do Evangelho para o coração de todos os que aqui trabalham, construindo o que é mais nobre e precioso deste mundo: o ser humano. O curso de Educação Infantil teve início no dia 03 de fevereiro de 1981. A 1ª série do 1º Grau (atual Ensino Fundamental) começou em 1983, e, em 1993 foi aberta a 1ª série do 2º Grau ( Ensino Médio).
